Enige tijd geleden maakten we al melding van het nieuws dat regisseur Rian Johnson (wiens film The Last Jedi nog maar net uit is) een compleet nieuwe Star Wars trilogie gaat creëren.
Enkele weken geleden zei hij hier het volgende over:
I’m in the very beginning phases of coming up with it so right now the sky is kind of the limit. The appeal of it to me is to do a new story told over three movies, to have that kind of canvas, to be in the Star Wars world and to have the feel of a Star Wars film. My entire pitch to Kathleen Kennedy and Disney was, ‘Let’s tell a new Star Wars story. Let’s tell one story over three movies, where we go to new places and meet new people. It’s a brand new story that feels like a great Star Wars story. That was the extent of it. I didn’t pitch an idea or a time or anything like that. It was just bright blue sky to tell a new story in and they were so excited about it. I’m starting to form clusters of ideas for the trilogy but the most exciting thing right now is the potential of it.”
Tevens maakte hij bekend dat zijn trilogie niet over de Knights of the Old Republic zal gaan:
“Oh, [fans] love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen… To me, what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?”
Het laatste nieuws is nu dat (volgens Scotsman) de opnames mogelijk deze zomer in Schotland van start zullen gaan. Vanaf juni zouden in het noorden en bij Argyll de eerste scenes geschoten gaan worden.
Daar er nog geen acteurs gecast zijn en het dus kort dag lijkt mag dit bericht mogelij met de bekende korrel zout genomen worden. Aan de andere kant: na december 2019 (Episode IX) staat er nog geen Star Wars film gepland. Als men de traditie ‘elk jaar een Star Wars film’ wil voortzetten dan zouden opnames in 2018 helemaal niet zo raar zijn… wordt vervolgd!
